Laryngitis :
Laryngitis is a condition in which the voice box in the throat becomes swollen and irritated. It can occur when an individual overuses their vocal cords or if the vocal cords become infected. Smoking, drinking alcohol or suffering from GERD can also cause laryngitis.
The symtpoms of this condition include dry cough, voice changes, irritation in the throat, sore throat and throat dryness. An ENT specialist can determine whether an individual has laryngitis by inquiring about the symptoms and examining the voice box with a special scope. The specialist may also order other tests like a microbe culture or biopsy to provide an accurate diagnosis. Laryngitis usually subsides on its own in two weeks without any treatment. An ENT doctor may prescribe medicines to provide relief from the symptoms.
