IUI :
IUI is a fertility treatment and a type of artificial insemination. IUI stands for intrauterine insemination, and is defined as placing sperm directly into a woman's uterus. IUI is indicated for conditions like low sperm count or other sperm impairments, ejaculation or erection dysfunction, cervical mucus problems or other problems with the cervix, semen allergy, if donor sperm has to be used and unexplained infertility. The duration taken for IUI is around 28 days or four weeks, the same as a regular menstrual cycle. Sperm is injected by carefully considering the ovulation timing. This is followed by the preparation of a semen sample for insemination, and then inserting a speculum into the vagina. Taking a pregnancy test is recommended approximately two weeks after IUI. Fertility drugs such as citrate, clomiphene, hCG, letrozole, FSH and prenatal vitamins are to be taken in combination with IUI, for stimulating the ovaries to produce and release as many eggs as possible.
