What is the main reason for Hair Fall?
- Genetics is the most common cause of hair fall, known as male or female pattern baldness. Genetic factors and hormone levels influence it, and it runs in families
- Hormonal Changes, such as during pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or thyroid disorders, can lead to temporary hair loss or shedding
- Nutritional deficiencies and lack of essential nutrients, such as iron, zinc, biotin, and vitamins, can affect hair health and lead to hair fall
What is the difference between Hair Loss and Hair Fall?
- Hair Loss is a broad term that includes any situation where hair is lost, regardless of the cause or pattern. It has both temporary and permanent hair loss due to various factors such as genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, stress, nutritional deficiencies, and certain medications. The term "hair loss" is more general and often describes the overall condition of losing hair
- Hair Fall is the natural process of shedding hair as part of the growth cycle. Hair strands go through a growth phase (anagen), followed by a resting phase (telogen) before falling out and being replaced by a new hair strand. Hair fall is a normal and natural part of this hair growth cycle. Individuals may lose around 50 to 100 hairs per day due to hair fall. This is considered normal and not a cause for concern
What are the stages of Hair Fall?
- Anagen or Growth Phase is the active growth phase of the hair follicles. During this stage, the hair grows continuously for 2 to 7 years. The duration of the anagen phase determines the maximum length a hair strand can reach.
- Catagen or Transition Phase comes after the anagen phase, in which the hair follicles go through a short transitional phase that lasts about two to three weeks. During this phase, the hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the blood supply, signalling the end of active hair growth.
- Telogen or Resting Phase lasts for about two to four months, and during this period, the hair follicle remains inactive, and the hair is held in place while new hair begins to grow beneath it.
