What are the causes of Giddiness?
- Giddiness occurs when something disrupts your sense of balance. A steady flow of information from your ears, eyes, tissues, and central nervous system is required for a stable sense of balance. Your central nervous system processes this information to help your body maintain equilibrium.
- When there is a disruption in the flow, the central nervous system may incorrectly process the information, leading to feelings of instability and Giddiness.
- Common causes include anxiety, stress, and motion sickness. Breathing in carbon monoxide or becoming severely dehydrated can lead to Giddiness, too. Low blood sugar due to improper diet or specific medications, especially for blood pressure, can also make you feel dizzy.
- Inner ear problems like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) make you feel like you're spinning when you move your head. Infections or inflammation in the inner ear, like labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis, can also trigger Giddiness. Conditions like anaemia, acoustic neuroma (noncancerous ear tumours), concussion, and certain neurological diseases affect balance and cause Giddiness.
- Sudden drops in blood pressure, cardiomyopathy (heart muscle thickening), heart attacks, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), circulation problems, intense exercise, and heat exhaustion are a few other causes.
What are the symptoms of Giddiness?
People having giddiness may experience various sensations, such as:
- Lightheadedness or faintness
- A false sense of spinning or motion
- Feeling nauseous
- Feeling unsteady or loss of balance
- Feeling of floating
- Feeling disoriented or confused
These feelings become worse while walking, standing up or moving your head. Sometimes, your Giddiness is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or fainting, or it may be so sudden or severe that you need to sit or lie down. The episodes can last a short time, just a few seconds, or even days, and might recur. If you have these symptoms for extended periods, seek emergency medical help or contact Skedoc; we have listed top doctors for Giddiness treatment in Hyderabad.
