Eye surgery, also called ocular surgery, is a surgery that aims repair or remove the eye and its surrounding structures. Eye surgery is recommended to manage conditions such as eye cancer, cataracts, ptosis, glaucoma, refractive errors like farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism, and retinal detachment. There is a wide range of eye surgeries, such as vision correcting surgeries like photo refractive keratectomy and LASIK surgery, corneal transplants, surgery to remove the eye, to manage glaucoma, vitrectomies, to repair open globe injury, strabismus surgery, and plastic surgeries like eyelid surgery for the face and structures around the eyes. The complications of eye surgery include seeing glare or halos, bleeding, dry eyes, blurred vision, decreased vision, and infection. The postoperative care involves consulting a doctor for symptoms like excessive bleeding, pain more than expected, swollen skin, fever, inability to see clearly or at all, and pus around the wound.
