Eclampsia :

Eclampsia is medical emergency in pregnant woman which is characterized by onset of seizures in a pre-eclampsia woman often in third trimester. The risk factors for eclampsia includes previous pregnancy of pre-eclampsia or eclampsia , first pregnancy , age <20 years or >35 years, chronic hypertension, kidney disease, multiple pregnancies etc. The pregnant female usually present with high blood pressure in the second trimester and it is important to monitor for other symptoms like headache, confusion, vision changes, nausea, vomiting etc, and start her on necessary treatment to prevent pre-eclampsia and eclampsia which may lead complications that can be fatal to both mother and the baby like HELLP syndrome, aspiration pneumonia, kidney failure, cardiac arrest , fetal distress, coagulopathy, intra uterine growth restriction, cerebral hemorrhage etc.
