D and C :
D and C refer to a minor surgical procedure that aims at the removal of tissue from the female's uterus and is the abbreviated form for dilation and curettage. Dilatation is meant by opening the cervix, and curettage is defined as the scraping of the uterine wall and the removal of the tissue. D and C are indicated if any of the parts of the placenta are left in the uterus after childbirth, a miscarriage, or an abortion, to remove tissues from the uterus. Irregular uterine bleeding is also diagnosed and treated using this procedure. Any abnormal tissue in the uterus, which may cause medical conditions like polyps, infection, cysts, fibroids, or uterine cancer, is removed by performing D and C. D and C is done for around ten minutes and is usually conducted as an outpatient procedure. The complications of D and C include uterine perforation, if one of the surgical instruments passes through the uterine wall, infection or bleeding.
