Candidiasis :
Candidiasis is, therefore, a kind of fungal infection developed from the excessive proliferation of Candida, a supposedly harmless form of yeast that can always be found in the body in minimal amounts, especially within the oral and pharyngeal cavities, gut, and in the vaginal area. When the natural balance of the body has been altered, multiplication of Candida and consequently the resultant infections may occur. Many kinds of Candidiasis exist starting with oral thrush characterized with white patches inside the mouth and vaginal yeast infections characterized by pruritus and irritation accompanied by discharge coming from the vagina. Other types may include diseases that relate to invasive candidiasis that involve the bloodstream and internal organs of the body.
The causes of candidiasis are different but common risk factors like antibiotics usage with the consequence of disturbing normal flora, an immune-compromised state due to instances like diabetes, HIV, and cancer, conditions of pregnancy, hormonal conditions changes, and some medical conditions increase the risk of infections. The symptoms of infection depend upon the site of infection: for instance, thrush presents with sore throat and pain on swallowing if in the oral cavity, whereas in vaginal fungal infection, it would present with abnormal discharge and itching and burning.
Mainstay of treatment of candidiasis is usually antifungal drugs. These are topical antifungal creams/ointments or systemic treatments which can be given intravenously or orally. It is best to seek the input of a healthcare provider to ensure proper diagnosis and administration of treatment, especially for invasive candidiasis, as this may be a life threatening infection.

How is invasive Candidiasis treated in Hyderabad?
- Identifying and treating the source is essential to prevent further spread or recurrence and can include removing central venous catheters, draining abscesses, or treating other sources of infection
- Antifungal susceptibility testing is done when resistance is suspected to antifungal medications, which helps identify the most effective treatment
How long does it take to cure Candidiasis?
The specialist doctors for candidiasis treatment advise that the duration of treatment depends on the types of candidiasis that are being treated, the severity of the infection, and the patient's overall health. In general, the duration of candidiasis treatment can be as follows:
- Oral Thrush for mild cases treatment with antifungal medications such as clotrimazole or nystatin lasts 7 to 14 days. Severe or persistent cases may require a more extended treatment duration
- Vaginal Candidiasis treatment for uncomplicated vaginal yeast infections is a short course of antifungal creams, suppositories, or oral medication, with the entire duration of treatment lasting up to 7 days
- Skin and Nail infections are usually treated with topical antifungal creams, ointments, or powders, and the treatment may last for 2 to 4 weeks or longer, depending on the extent of the infection and how well the individual responds to treatment
What are the stages of Candidiasis?
- Oral Candidiasis, also known as thrush, affects the mouth and throat. The stages of oral candidiasis include mild white patches that may progress to more significant and more extensive lesions and, if left untreated, spread to the back of the throat, causing pain and difficulty in swallowing
- Vaginal Candidiasis is a common type of candidiasis in women and affects the vagina and surrounding genital area. The stages of vaginal candidiasis typically involve itching, redness, swelling, and a thick, white, cottage cheese-like discharge. In advanced stages, pain and discomfort during urination or sexual intercourse are seen
- Cutaneous Candidiasis affects the skin and presents as red, itchy rashes with raised borders
