CABG / Open Heart :
CABG/open heart is known as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting. CABG is one of the types of open-heart surgery that will be used to create a new path for the flow of blood in order to treat the blocked blood vessels. CABG can be done in an emergency condition called a heart attack. CABG can also be done in case of coronary artery diseases, which include angina pectoris and myocardial ischemia. During the CABG procedure, the healthy blood vessels will be collected from the veins of the legs or the arteries in the chest region for use as grafts and to create a new path for the blood flow, thus bypassing the blocked arteries. CABG will be indicated when a person is experiencing symptoms, which include severe chest pain, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, indigestion, fatigue, swollen hands and legs, and abnormal heartbeat. The diagnostic tests which should be performed prior to the CABG procedure will be ECG, cardiac catheterization, echocardiogram, complete blood count, nuclear cardiac stress tests, CT scan, exercise stress test, coronary calcium scan, X-ray angiography, and urine tests.
