Anemia in Pregnancy
Anemia in pregnancy is a condition in which there is a deficiency of red blood cells in the body to carry oxygen to all the tissues of the body. During pregnancy there is an increase in blood volume and also an increase in the requirement of iron by the body. When this demand is not met and there is a deficiency of iron, it leads to the development of anemia in pregnancy. Anemia in pregnancy is associated with complicaions such as premature birth of the baby, low birth weight of the baby, and also increased risk of depression in the mother after delivery. Anemia in pregnancy causes symptoms such as increased tiredness, dizziness, headaches, breathing difficulties, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure, and confusion.
