Breast Cancer Surgeon :

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer seen in women and is one of the major reason for cancer related deaths world wide. Risk factors include family history of breast cancer, BRCA gene mutations, obesity, pregnancy in late age, not providing breast feeding, early age of menarche, elderly age group, hormonal replacement therapy, alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking, etc.

Symptoms include palpable mass in the breast, swollen lymph nodes, inverted nipples, skin puckering around the nipples, peau d'orange appearance of breast skin, blood stained discharge from the nipple, change in shape and size of the breast. Self examination of breast regularly and mammography helps in early detection of cancer. Treatment include lumpectomy, partial or complete mastectomy and often removing the surrounding lymph nodes . Surgery need to be followed by therapies such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immuno therapy, targeted drug therapy, endocrine therapy and palliative care.
