Pituitary Tumors :
The pituitary gland is a tiny organ located in the middle of brain and is important as it produces essential hormones that control the growth and metabolism in humans. They are benign in the sense that they don’t spread to the rest of the brain cells and are not aggressive. Pituitary tumors do not show specific symptoms on onset and hence it makes it difficult to diagnose this ailment. Since this is an isolated gland, the best option is its removal via skull base surgery. The tumor is approached via the nose or a tiny incision below the upper lip. Since the gland is present at the base of the nose, the removal is a simple process and does not involve a major brain surgery. Magnetic resonance imagining (MRI) is the guiding factor to ensure that the endoscope reaches the right place. In tiny bites, the gland is extracted and a gauze maybe placed in order to reduce the post operative hemorrhage.
