Insulin pumps :
Insulin pumps are medical devices that help in managing diabetes by supplying rapid acting insulin beneath the skin of the patient. These devices are considered as alternatives to insulin therapy injections for diabetic patients. These insulin pumps are of two types, namely, tubeless insulin pumps and tubed insulin pumps. Insulin pumps are indicated to treat type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, type 3c diabetes, while planning for pregnancy, when medications can no longer manage diabetes, and when there is a requirement of smaller doses of insulin in the body, as in gastroparesis. The side effects of using insulin pumps are bent cannulas, hematoma formation, failed pumps, adhesive issues and insulin crystallization. They are also known to cause blindness, low vision and complaints with maintaining the attached pump. These insulin pumps work by delivering small and continuous doses of insulin or by giving manual surges of insulin while eating and to correct high levels of blood sugar.
