Fever :
Fever occurs temporarily above baseline body temperature and is most often due to infection. Body temperature equal to or above 100.4 F (38 C) is termed as fever, while 98.6 F( 37 C) is normal. Common causes range from viral or bacterial infections to colds, flu, pneumonia, or inflammatory conditions. Chills, sweating, generalized body aches, weakness, dehydration, and loss of appetite are symptoms. Most fevers will improve on their own, but fluids, rest, and over the counter medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen may help relieve symptoms. Any fever that persists for longer than 3 days, temperature exceeding 103 F(39.4 C), or accompanied by severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, seizures, or confusion needs the immediate attention of a doctor. High fever in children can cause febrile seizures. Good hygiene, washing hands regularly, and immunizations are the basic preventive strategies against febrile illnesses, along with plenty of rest.
