Thyroid Problems :
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that releases thyroid hormones that are essential to the body's functioning. Thyroid problems are conditions in which the thyroid gland does not release the hormones as expected. Unusual swelling or growths on the thyroid are also considered thyroid problems.
The symptoms of thyroid problems include changes in weight, tiredness, mood swings, dry skin, anxiety, tremors, irregular heartbeat and hair thinning. The symptoms depend on the type of thyroid problem. A doctor can diagnose a thyroid problem with a physical exam and blood tests. In some cases, imaging tests such as a thyroid ultrasound may also be required. The treatment of thyroid problems usually involves medications. However, depending on the underlying cause, a doctor may suggest radioiodine therapy or surgery to resolve the issue.
