Breast Lump :
A breast lump is a characteristic mass or growth developed in the breast. A breast lump can be bumpy, moveable, hard or firm, smooth or spongy, round or irregularly shaped, and squishy or soft. Breast lumps are sometimes accompanied by nipple changes and bloody discharge from the nipple. The factors contributing to the formation of breast lumps are fibro cystic changes, breast cysts, fibroadenomas, phyllodes tumor, breast calcifications, breast infection and breast cancer. Breast lumps are diagnosed by breast examination, taking the medical history and performing mammogram and ultrasound along with imaging tests like breast MRI based on the requirement. Breast lumps are treated by prescribing antibiotics, fluid drainage from breast cysts, and biopsy to further analyze the mass and cancer treatment if the lump is proven as breast cancer.
