Tennis Elbow :
Lateral epicondylitis, also called tennis elbow, is a condition that causes pain and inflammation in the elbow due to damage to the tendon that connects your forearm muscle to the elbow. The major cause of the tennis elbow is repeated movements of the wrist and arm. A person with tennis elbow experiences elbow pain, stiffness, swelling, and weakened grip. People with ages greater than 40, regular weight lifting, smoking, obesity, and sports persons are at higher risk of tennis elbow. It can be diagnosed through physical examination by an Orthopedic, x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, and EMG. Treatment plans include rest, icing, compression, elevation, medical management, physical therapy, and tennis elbow surgery if needed. Tennis elbow can be prevented by avoiding overuse of arm and elbow during sports and other physical activities. Early consultation of an Orthopedic is needed for tennis elbow to avoid the complication of tendon tear.
