Lump in the Neck :
A lump in the neck forms due to various conditions but is mostly diagnosed as enlarged lymph nodes. The underlying causes for neck lumps are commonly identified as ear infections, strep throat, dental infections, sinus infections, tonsillitis, and bacterial infections. These lumps can also be due to thyroid issues, cysts, infections, and cancer. It can also occur because of active infections like scratch disease, toxoplasmosis, actinomycosis and systemic infections like mononucleosis, mumps, HIV and tuberculosis. Cancers such as lymphoma, basal cell carcinoma, lipoma, and squamous cell carcinoma can also cause a lump in the neck. The other factors causing a lump in the neck are epidermoid cysts and goiter. The warning signs to be considered when there is a lump in the neck are the lump being hard or large, sores or growths in the mouth, difficulty in swallowing and a new lump formation.
