Ureteroscopy :
Ureteroscopy is a procedure that lasts for 2 to 3 hours, usually performed under general anesthesia, where a telescope is passed via the urethra, bladder, and ureter up to the stone location point. Small stones can be removed from the ureter as a whole. If the stone is large, it is fragmented into tiny pieces using a laser and then removed. The advantage of ureteroscopy is that it can treat stones located at any position in the kidney and ureter. The benefits of ureteroscopy are to get a clear view of the urinary tract, remove the stones, and take out suspicious-looking tissue. Risks include breathing problems, bleeding, reaction to medicines, infection, blood clots, injury to the ureter or kidney, narrowing of the ureter and urinary tract infection. Ureteroscopy is not good in treating patients with large stones and patients with a history of urinary tract reconstruction. Risks and complications may include residual stones within the kidney, ureteral injury, ureteral stricture, avulsion and infection.
