Throat Cancer :
Throat cancer affects the throat or voice box and usually seen in the middle part of the throat. Types of throat cancer include oropharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer. Symptoms include sore throat, ear pain, difficulty in swallowing, pain during swallowing, lump in the neck, back or throat in the mouth, hoarseness, coughing up blood and weight loss. It is caused due to genetic mutations that turn healthy cells into cancerous cells that grow, multiply and spread to other parts of the body. Risk factors include smoking tobacco products, human papillomavirus, drinking alcohol, epstein-barr virus, exposure to toxic substances, eating too many processed and preserved foods and not getting enough veggies and fruits. Diagnosis include physical exam, endoscopy, laryngoscopy, biopsy and imaging tests like CT scan, MRI and PET scan.
