Salivary gland tumour is a cancerous growth that forms on the salivary glands, which produce saliva. The most common types of salivary gland tumours are adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. These tumors usually observed near parotid glands, sub lingual salivary glands and submandibular glands. The presenting complaints of salivary gland tumors are difficulty opening the mouth fully or moving the facial muscles, weakness or numbness in the face, neck, jaw or mouth, persistent pain in the face, jaw, neck or mouth, bleeding the mouth and difficulty in swallowing. The diagnostic tests conducted to identify a salivary gland tumor include imaging tests such as CT and MRI scan, PET scan and histopathology tests and biopsy. The treatment modalities to manage salivary gland tumours include prescribing the radiosensitizers, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical procedures to remove the tumor or lymphadenectomy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
