Salivary Gland Cancer :
Salivary gland cancer is referred to as a cancerous condition that affects the salivary glands due to the abnormal multiplication of cells. Salivary glands are mainly helpful for the production of saliva, which aids in digestion and keeps the oral cavity hydrated. There are various types of salivary glands, which include the sublingual gland, parotid gland, and submandibular gland. The symptoms that are observed in salivary gland cancer include a swollen neck or jaw or mouth, restriction of mouth opening, pain in the areas affected by salivary gland cancer, difficulty swallowing, and numbness on the face. Salivary gland cancer will be detected through the physical examination, and diagnostic tests will include a CT scan, an MRI scan, a PET scan, and a biopsy. The treatment advised for salivary gland cancer will be with surgical treatment, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The risk factors that increase the risk of salivary gland cancer are older age, radiation exposure, tobacco smoking, and viral infections.
