Optic Neuritis :
Optic neuritis is a condition of the eye causing inflammation of the optic nerve. Optic neuritis is categorized into 3 different types such as typical, atypical, and pediatric. The common symptoms of optic neuritis are eye pain, vision acuity loss, visual field defects or vision loss, and dyschromatopsia, characterized by color vision loss. Optic neuritis is caused by autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, infections like bacterial, fungal, and parasitic, drugs, toxins, and other conditions like lack of blood flow, vitamin deficiencies, nerve compression and metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes. Typical optic neuritis is closely associated with multiple sclerosis, and atypical optic neuritis occurs due to neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and MOG- antibody-associated disease. It is treated by intravenous anti-inflammatory drugs and treating any underlying causes or contributing factors.
