Head Lice :
Head lice are parasites which make the scalp itchy. These parasites live in the hair on the head and bite the scalp. The presenting complains indicating the presence of head lice on scalp are small bumps or sores from scratching, a feeling like something in the hair is moving and itching which makes it difficult to sleep, as head lice are most active at night. Sharing items which touch the head like hats, brushes or combs, spreads the lice among people from one person to another. Head lice are most commonly seen in children of the age group three to twelve years, as they stay in close contact with one another. The treatment modalities for the removal of head lice involves using lotions and medicated shampoos. It is also important wash the clothing and bedding, to wash combs and brushes in hot water, and also vacuum the areas of home, including furniture.
