Eclampsia :
During the pregnancy stage, few women develop hypertension and also proteinuria. This is known as preeclampsia. Patients with this preeclampsia might develop seizures, which is known as eclampsia. It is mostly seen after the 20th week of pregnancy. Women with underlying diseases like kidney disease, multiple pregnancies, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, and obesity are more prone to have this episode. Patients with eclampsia present with symptoms that may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, blurring of vision, recurrent headaches, seizures, syncopall attacks, and swelling of feet and arms. Diagnosis is made by certain basic blood investigations, complete urine examination, serum creatinine test, and ultrasound. Treatment includes anticonvulsant medication, medications to control blood pressure, and corticosteroids. If the gestation period is more than 37 weeks, the best option of treatment would be inducing the labor. Complications that might occur with eclampsia include placental abruption, preterm labor, stroke, stillbirth, and death.
