Diabetes Insipidus :
Diabetes insipidus is a condition that causes the body to produce an excess amount of urine that is caused by improper balance of ADH in the body. It can be distinguished into different types based on cause of the condition which includes nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, which is caused by the resistance of kidneys to ADH dipsogenic diabetes insipidus due to concerns with the hypothalamus, central diabetes insipidus due to reduced production of ADH, and gestational diabetes insipidus due to excess production of enzymes by the placenta that breaks down the vasopressin. It is characterized by excessive production of urine, increased thirst, frequent urination at night, and passing light or clear urine. Diabetes insipidus is caused by damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary, an autoimmune disorder, or an inherited gene mutation. Diabetes insipidus can be diagnosed through urinalysis, blood tests, water deprivation test, MRI and stimulation tests. Treatment plans vary based on the cause and symptoms of the condition, which include medical and dietary management. Early consultation with an Endocrinologist is recommended for better treatment plans and avoid complications like dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
