Delayed Puberty :
Delayed puberty refers to a condition where physical development of secondary sexual characteristics occurs later than usual, age according to the established age norms. Secondary sexual characteristics include breast development in females, testicular enlargement in males and others. Delayed puberty is commonly noticed among boys when compared with girls. Some of the common causes of delayed puberty are genetic factors, chronic illness hormonal imbalance, or structural abnormalities affecting the reproductive organ, development of Adam's apple, voice changes, facial hair, pubic hair and etc . Diagnosis involves a through medical history, physical examination and possibly hormone testing to identify the exact underlying cause. Treatment mainly depends on the cause which may involve hormonal therapy to induce puberty. Psychological support and education are very important for adolescent including their families to deal with the emotional and social challenges associated with delayed puberty.
