Craniopharyngioma is a rarest type of noncancerous brain tumor developing near the pituitary gland. When the craniopharyngioma is growing, it will put pressure on the blood vessels, nerves, and tissues of the brain. The symptoms of craniopharyngioma can be a headache, balance problems, nausea, vomiting, confusion, thirst is increased, mood changes, vision problems, and reduced growth in children. The craniopharyngioma is diagnosed through neurological examination, imaging tests such as X-rays, MRI scan, CT scan, biopsy, urinalysis, and blood tests. The treatment option for craniopharyngioma is surgical treatment and involves the removal of complete pituitary gland. The types of surgical procedures are minimally invasive craniopharyngioma surgery and open craniopharyngioma surgery also called as craniotomy. Following the surgery, radiation therapy is done using powerful beams of radiation to destroy the tumor cells. The types of radiation therapy can be stereotactic radiosurgery, external beam radiation therapy, and brachytherapy.
