Bow Legs :
Bow legs or Genu varum is a condition where the knees of the child curve outward, leaving a wide space between them. This is a common condition seen in infants and toddlers, which is commonly resolved by 2 years and should be corrected if it affects the child beyond 2 years. The main sign of bow legs is the appearance of a child's legs in the form of a bow and children walking with their toes pointed inward and the child experiences pain in knees and hips, reduced range of motion in hips, knee instability, and difficulty walking or running. Conditions like bone dysplasia, blounts disease, improperly healed fractures, lead poisoning, fluoride poisoning, dwarfism, rickets and Paget's disease cause bow legs. It can be diagnosed through physical examination by an Orthopedic, x-rays, CT scans, and MRI. Treatment plans include physical therapy, bracing, and surgical procedures which include guided growth through metal plates and tibial osteotomy if needed.
