Bone Marrow transplant (BMT) :
Bone Marrow transplant (BMT) is also called stem cell transplant. It is done to replace the diseased or damaged bone marrow. Bone Marrow transplant is most commonly done in patients with blood cancers and autoimmune diseases. There are two types of bone marrow transplants such as autologous bone marrow transplant and allogenic stem cell transplant. In an autologous bone marrow transplant, stem cells are taken from their own bone marrow, whereas an allogeneic bone marrow transplant uses stem cells from donors. There are some risks associated with bone marrow transplants, such as bleeding, infections, and graft-versus-host disease. The success of bone marrow transplants depends on the type of the condition, stage of the disease, age, and healing nature of the body. Patients who underwent this bone marrow transplant should have regular checkups and monitoring with the doctor.
