Trachoma :
Trachoma is an infectious disease of the eye that is caused by a bacteria, Chlamydia trachomatis, and creates vision problems in the affected individuals. The early signs of trachoma are red and irritated eyes, swollen eyelids, blurred vision, watery discharge from the eyes, and discharge from the nose. In the past, the complaints would appear as tightened eyelids due to scar tissue, inward-turning eyelashes because of tight eyelids, extreme eye pain due to eyelashes scraping against the cornea, light tolerance, impaired vision, and possible blindness. Antibiotics are prescribed to treat trachoma. It can also complicate and cause irreversible blindness. The risk of trachoma can be reduced by following preventive measures such as surgery to repair advanced disease, facial cleansing to stop the spread of infection, antibiotics to treat the infection, and changing to environments where there is improved access to clean water and sanitation services.
