Rheumatic fever :
Rheumatic fever is a rare complication of a bacterial throat infection that usually develops in children between ages 5 and 15. It can develop between one and five weeks after the infection. Rheumatic fever is an overreaction of the immune system to the infection, and it causes problems like arthritis, fatigue, chorea and fever. Doctors diagnose this condition by examining the patient and looking for signs of illness. While there is no single test for diagnosing this condition, a doctor may use tests like blood tests, EKGs, echocardiography and throat swabs to diagnose rheumatic fever. Treatment options for rheumatic fever include antibiotics and painkillers, among other stronger medicines. Most children affected by disease make a full recovery in three months. However, once a child develops this fever, it is likely to affect them again later.
